The VDA 239-100 standard classifies these mild steels, in particular cold-rolled (CR) and hot-rolled (HR) variants, according to specific quality classes that are tailored to the respective rolling type and forming quality. <br\/><br\/>The designation of these steels is made up of the type of rolling (cold or hot strip) and a grade from 1 to 6. The higher the grade, the better the formability of the material. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-604b263d\"><h2 class=\"uagb-heading-text\">Cold-rolled steels (CR)<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Cold-rolled steels offer excellent surface quality and precise thickness tolerance, making them ideal for applications where both high surface quality and precise dimensional accuracy are required. The grade class for cold-rolled steels ranges from CR1 to CR6: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-icon-list uagb-block-a8ca34b3\"><div class=\"uagb-icon-list__wrap\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-icon-list-child uagb-block-2670bebc\"><span class=\"uagb-icon-list__label\"><strong>CR1 (drawing grade)<\/strong>: This grade is suitable for simple forming processes and is often used for less demanding formed parts.<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-icon-list-child uagb-block-00509dcf\"><span class=\"uagb-icon-list__label\"><strong>CR2 (deep drawing grade)<\/strong>: Offers better formability than CR1 and is suitable for deeper forming processes.<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-icon-list-child uagb-block-7d84ce3b\"><span class=\"uagb-icon-list__label\"><strong>CR3 (special deep-drawing grade)<\/strong>: Ideal for more demanding thermoforming applications and molded parts with more complex geometries.<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-icon-list-child uagb-block-3d26cbfb\"><span class=\"uagb-icon-list__label\"><strong>CR4 (special deep drawing grade)<\/strong>: Developed for extremely demanding deep drawing applications and offers even better formability than CR3.<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-icon-list-child uagb-block-f473f6f2\"><span class=\"uagb-icon-list__label\"><strong>CR5 (super deep drawing grade)<\/strong>: This steel grade enables particularly deep and complex forming processes and is often used for high-precision molded parts.<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-icon-list-child uagb-block-08caf62c\"><span class=\"uagb-icon-list__label\"><strong>CR6 (ultra deep drawing grade)<\/strong>: The highest grade of cold rolled steels, which offers maximum formability and is suitable for the most complex shapes and deepest drawing processes.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-d05c7066\"><h3 class=\"uagb-heading-text\">Hot rolled steels (HR)<\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Hot-rolled steels in accordance with VDA 239-100 are available in HR0 and HR2 grades:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-icon-list uagb-block-09d8ad91\"><div class=\"uagb-icon-list__wrap\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-icon-list-child uagb-block-5d66d9ba\"><span class=\"uagb-icon-list__label\"><strong>HR0 (basic grade)<\/strong>: This basic grade fulfills basic requirements for strength and formability and is suitable for simple applications.<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-icon-list-child uagb-block-e89e95d2\"><span class=\"uagb-icon-list__label\"><strong>HR2 (drawing quality)<\/strong>: Offers higher formability than HR0 and is designed for more demanding forming processes.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-ec7f3a94\"><h2 class=\"uagb-heading-text\">Chemical composition and flexibility of the alloy<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>A special feature of soft steels according to VDA 239-100 is their specially adapted chemical composition. IF steels (interstitial-free steels), for example, have a very low carbon content of less than 0.02%, which significantly improves their formability. However, the manufacturer has the freedom to adapt the alloy concept within the specified limits to meet specific requirements. This enables a high degree of flexibility and efficiency in production, as the steel can be optimized depending on the application.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-25928554\"><h2 class=\"uagb-heading-text\">Example of naming<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>A typical example would be the designation &#8220;VDA 239 CR4-EG29\/29-E&#8221;. This is a cold-rolled soft steel of grade 4, which is electrolytically galvanized and has a zinc coating of at least 29 g\/m\u00b2 per side. This variant meets the surface quality requirements for exterior parts and is therefore particularly suitable for visible components such as body parts.  <br\/><br\/>Thanks to the precise definition and classification in accordance with VDA 239-100, this standard provides a reliable basis for the selection and use of mild steels with specific properties and areas of application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div
