The DIN EN 10083-2 standard defines the chemical composition and properties of unalloyed quenched and tempered steels in order to meet the requirements for components such as shafts, bolts and gears. Case-hardening steels according to DIN EN 10084 are characterized by a hard surface layer and a tough core, which makes them particularly suitable for components with high surface loads such as gears and shafts.
