Weight Reduction and Extreme Load-Bearing Capacity Redefined
The innovative S460 grades offer a high-performance material class for highly efficient structures. This unalloyed structural steel offers enormous economic and design advantages in the flat steel range up to 30 mm: Thanks to the dramatically increased strength, cross-sections can be reduced, material costs saved, transport weights lowered, and weld volume significantly reduced.

A Comparison of Quality Groups and Thermal Application Ranges

Regardless of the selected grade, the S460 delivers an outstanding minimum yield strength of 460 MPa (for thicknesses up to mm) or 440 MPa (up to our maximum thickness of 30 mm). The selection of the grade is based precisely on your mechanical and thermal requirements:

S460JR: Guarantees a notched impact energy of at least 27 joules at a room temperature of +20 °C—ideal for protected indoor structures with extreme load requirements.
S460J0: Provides a notched impact energy of at least 27 joules at 0 °C—the economical choice for general outdoor use.
S460J2: Offers enhanced resistance to brittle fracture with a minimum of 27 joules at freezing temperatures of -20 °C—perfect for heavy-duty crane, vehicle, and bridge construction in harsh climatic conditions.
S460K2: This high-end toughness grade guarantees outstanding impact energy of at least 40 joules at -20 °C. As a result, this grade provides the critical safety margin for highly stressed components subjected to sudden impacts at sub-freezing temperatures.

Manufacturing and Custom Specifications

Delivery Condition According to Customer Specifications: To ensure that the maximum mechanical properties are optimally tailored to your machining process, we deliver the S460 exactly in the desired condition—whether as-rolled (+AR), thermomechanically rolled (+M), or normalized (+N).
Extensive processing options: Despite its tremendous strength, the material can be welded exceptionally well thanks to a modern alloy design. Upon request, options such as suitability for crack-free bending (cold forming), optimization for subsequent hot-dip galvanizing, or non-destructive ultrasonic testing can be flexibly arranged.
