Tailor-made Ford standards for high-strength steels: Optimal solutions for the automotive industry
The Ford Motor Company has also precisely defined its requirements for the steels used in its vehicles by means of specific standards. This standardization enables steels to be optimally matched to the requirements of modern vehicle designs. The relevant materials are classified in the Ford standards WSS-M1A365, WSS-M1A367 and WSS-M1A368. These cover a wide range of materials, from soft, highly formable steels to high-strength and multiphase steels.
We are happy to offer you the steels from these standards for your specific project. Whether for applications in car body construction, for structural components or for demanding forming technology – these materials are suitable for a wide range of requirements. If you have any questions, we will of course be happy to advise you.
WSS-M1A365: Typical cold and hot rolled steels
The WSS-M1A365 standard describes steel grades that are characterized by excellent formability and are therefore ideal for car body construction. These materials are ideal for applications where tight tolerances and high surface quality are required. Hot-rolled materials are preferred for less demanding surface requirements and offer high cost-effectiveness.

WSS-M1A367: Microalloyed and bake-hardening steels
This standard covers a wide range of high-strength steels with special suitability for cold forming and demanding applications. Bake-hardening steels are particularly suitable for components that require improved strength through bake-hardening after painting. These steels combine high strength with good workability, making them ideal for structural and safety components.
This standard covers state-of-the-art high-strength steels with outstanding mechanical performance, including dual-phase steels (DP), which offer a perfect balance between strength and formability.
