HC220I: Cold-rolled micro-alloyed isotropic steel in accordance with the DIN EN 10268 standard
HC220I is a cold-rolled micro-alloyed steel in accordance with the DIN EN 10268 standard that impresses with its outstanding properties and wide range of applications. It is characterized by unparalleled strength, good formability and weldability and therefore offers a reliable and economical solution for demanding applications in a wide range of industries.
Thanks to a specified tensile strength of 300-380 MPa and a minimum elongation at break of at least 34%, HC220I significantly exceeds the strength values of comparable structural steels. This makes it the ideal choice for challenging applications, for example in vehicle construction.
Easy processing thanks to good formability: Despite its strength, HC220I can be bent, drawn and punched without any problems. This enables simple and economical processing and the production of components with complex geometries. Designers can thus implement their ideas flexibly and efficiently.
Secure connections thanks to good weldability: HC220I is characterized by its good weldability. This makes it easy to join components securely and permanently, which further expands the range of applications for the material and ensures high reliability and durability of the structures.
HC220I is a versatile cold-rolled micro-alloyed and isotropic steel that offers a unique combination of strength, good formability and weldability. It is the optimal choice for applications that require maximum safety and load-bearing capacity and offers a reliable and economical solution for demanding projects.
Advantages of HC220Y
Isotropic steels (I): Steels with a limited value of vertical anisotropy (r)
Isotropic steels, identified by the letter “I” in the standard designation, are characterized by a limited degree of vertical anisotropy. This means that their mechanical properties, such as tensile strength, elongation and hardness, are uniform in all directions of the material. In contrast, anisotropic steels (e.g. cold-rolled sheets) exhibit direction-dependent properties, as the deformation during the rolling process leads to a preferred orientation of the crystallites in the material.
Determining the vertical anisotropy
The degree of anisotropy is described by the r-value, which is determined in the tensile test on flat specimens at 0°, 45° and 90° to the rolling direction. The r-value is the ratio of the true transverse strain in the width direction to the true transverse strain in the thickness direction. An r-value of 1 indicates an isotropic steel, while values less than or greater than 1 indicate anisotropy in the sheet plane.
Conclusion
HC220I is a robust and versatile cold-rolled micro-alloyed steel with the advantages of an isotropic steel (I) that impresses with its balance of strength, formability and weldability. It is the optimal choice for applications that require high load-bearing capacity, easy processing and secure connections and offers a reliable and economical solution for demanding projects.
HC220I+ZE: Electrolytically galvanized
The cold-rolled micro-alloyed HC220I steel offers a number of advantages in the metalworking industry. One particularly noteworthy property of this steel is its ability to be electrolytically galvanized, which significantly expands its range of applications. The possibility of electrolytic galvanizing not only improves the mechanical properties of HC220I steel, but also increases its corrosion resistance. This opens up a wide range of applications in which strength and protection against corrosion are equally important.
