Chemical properties

The hot-dip galvanized steel S450GD in accordance with the EN 10346 standard is a high-strength structural steel that has been specially developed for demanding applications in structural engineering and building construction. With the material number 1.0233, S450GD has a minimum yield strength Rp0.2 of 450 N/mm² and therefore belongs to the highest performance level of hot-dip galvanized structural steels. Hot-dip galvanizing in accordance with EN 10346 ensures a uniform and resilient zinc coating that provides the steel with lasting protection against corrosion. Available coatings are +Z (pure zinc), +ZF (zinc-iron), +ZA (zinc-aluminum), +ZM (zinc-magnesium) and +AZ (aluminum-zinc), so that the material can be precisely adapted to different environmental conditions and stresses.

Properties

S450GD offers an excellent combination of high strength, sufficient ductility and proven corrosion protection. The key mechanical properties can be found in the table above.

These characteristics guarantee a solid load-bearing capacity even under high static and dynamic loads. The homogeneous microstructure of the hot-rolled base material ensures reliable dimensional accuracy and good weldability.

The different hot-dip galvanizing variants also offer specific advantages:

+Z (pure galvanized):
Standard corrosion protection for general conditions.
+ZF (zinc-iron):
Improved coating adhesion and increased resistance to mechanical stress.
+ZA (zinc-aluminium):
Optimized resistance in atmospheric environments.
+ZM (zinc-magnesium):
Extended protection in maritime and saline zones through passivating behavior.
+AZ (aluminum-zinc):
Combination of heat resistance and corrosion protection, ideal for high surface temperatures.

In addition, S420GD is characterized by a homogeneous microstructure, good weldability and precise dimensional accuracy, which enables economical further processing in cutting, bending and welding processes.

Applications

Due to its high strength and reliable corrosion protection, S450GD is used in a wide range of construction projects:

Load-bearing steel structures: Columns, beams and frame systems in hall, bridge and hall apron constructions.
Roof and façade systems: trapezoidal and standing seam profiles for industrial, commercial and public buildings.
Drainage systems: gutters, downpipes and gutters for extreme weather conditions.
Solar mounting systems: Substructures for photovoltaic and solar thermal systems that require maximum load-bearing capacity and corrosion resistance.
Special applications: Heavy-duty frames, crane runways and mechanically stressed components where high strength and wear resistance are crucial.

By selecting the right zinc coating, maintenance intervals can be extended and life cycle costs significantly reduced.

With a minimum yield strength of 450 N/mm² and a tensile strength of at least 510 N/mm², the hot-dip galvanized steel S450GD in accordance with EN 10346 offers an optimum combination of high load-bearing capacity, formability and long-lasting corrosion protection.
