Chemical properties

The hot-dip galvanized steel HX180YD in accordance with the EN 10346 standard is a highly developed thin sheet material that has been specially designed for demanding cold forming processes. With the material number 1.0921, HX180YD belongs to the group of Y-steels without intercalated intermediate atoms. A strictly controlled alloy composition minimizes unwanted inclusions and atomic dislocations. This leads to significantly improved flow properties, which are reflected in particular in optimized r-values (plastic anisotropy) and n-values (strain hardening exponent). The hot-dip galvanized surface coating also guarantees long-lasting corrosion protection. The coating variants +Z, +ZF, +ZA, +ZM, +AZ and +AS are available, enabling specific adaptation to different environmental conditions and processing methods.

Properties

HX180YD is characterized by an outstanding combination of the following features:

High thermoforming capability: Thanks to improved r-values (> 1.7), uniform flow behavior is achieved in the longitudinal and transverse directions. This minimizes local thickness irregularities and prevents cracking during deep drawing.
Uniform hardening (n-value ≥ 0.18): A high strain hardening exponent enables a uniform increase in hardness with increasing elongation and thus ensures reduced notch sensitivity and lower yield point loss.

Hot-dip galvanizing in accordance with EN 10346: The zinc coating protects the base material against corrosion.

+Z (pure zinc coating) – basic corrosion protection
+ZF (zinc-iron) – improved adhesion and mechanical resistance
+ZA (zinc-aluminum) – optimized resistance in industrial atmospheres
+ZM (zinc-magnesium) – increased protection in maritime and salty environments
+AZ (aluminum-zinc) – combination of heat resistance and corrosion protection
+AS (aluminum-silicon) – high temperature and corrosion protection for special applications

In addition, HX180YD offers a homogeneous microstructure, good weldability and precise dimensional accuracy, which ensures reliable further processing in cutting, bending and welding processes.

Applications

Due to its excellent forming properties and robust corrosion protection, HX180YD is widely used in various branches of industry:

Automotive industry: Deep-drawn interior parts, interior door parts and complex structural components that require tight tolerances and excellent surface quality.
Household appliances: housings and components for washing machines, refrigerators or ovens, where uniform sheet thicknesses and flawless surfaces are required.
Electronics and electrical industry: housings and shielding plates with high dimensional accuracy and reliably corrosion-protected surfaces.
Furniture and furnishing industry: Beautifully shaped, seamless sheet metal components for design and office furniture that allow filigree contours.
Mechanical and plant engineering: covers, cladding and structural components with tight bending radii and constant material thicknesses.

Conclusion

Thanks to its “Y” steel technology, the hot-dip galvanized steel HX180YD in accordance with EN 10346 combines outstanding formability with long-lasting corrosion protection. Improved r- and n-values ensure uniform flow behavior, high deformation reserves and a reduced risk of surface defects. The wide range of coating variants enables precise adaptation to environmental conditions from moderate to extreme. HX180YD is therefore the ideal choice for companies that place the highest demands on the precision, surface quality and durability of their cold-formed sheet metal components.
