Chemical properties

The hot-dip galvanized steel HX260YD in accordance with the EN 10346 standard is a highly developed thin sheet material that has been specially designed for demanding cold forming processes. With the material number 1.0926, HX260YD belongs to the group of “Y” steels without embedded intermediate atoms. Strictly controlled purity and optimized alloy composition minimize unwanted inclusions and achieve a particularly fine-grained steel structure. This leads to significantly improved r-values (plastic anisotropy) and high n-values (hardening exponent) and allows excellent flow behavior during deep drawing and stamping. The integrated hot-dip galvanizing process evenly coats the surface with a robust zinc layer, which is available in the variants +Z, +ZF, +ZA, +ZM, +AZ and +AS and guarantees reliable corrosion protection.

Properties

HX260YD is characterized by a balanced combination of superior formability, homogeneous material hardening and optimum corrosion protection:

Optimized r-values (> 1.4): A high plasticity anisotropy coefficient ensures uniform flow behaviour in the longitudinal and transverse machine direction, reduces local thickness variation and minimizes the risk of cracking at low forming degrees.
High n-value (≥ 0.16): The strain hardening exponent ensures a uniform increase in yield hardness with increasing elongation, ensures stable forming processes and reduces the risk of notch sensitivity.
Mechanical properties: Typical minimum yield strength Rp0.2 is around 260 N/mm², tensile strength Rm between 380 – 440 N/mm² and elongation at break A80 of ≥ 30 %.

Hot-dip galvanizing in accordance with EN 10346: The zinc coating provides effective protection against atmospheric and chemical corrosion. The six coating variants offer customized advantages:

+Z (pure zinc): Basic corrosion protection
+ZF (zinc-iron): Improved adhesion and mechanical strength
+ZA (zinc-aluminum): Optimized resistance in industrial atmospheres
+ZM (zinc-magnesium): Excellent protection in maritime environments
+AZ (aluminum-zinc): Combination of heat resistance and corrosion protection
+AS (aluminum-silicon): Maximum protection under extreme temperature and corrosion loads

Applications

Due to its outstanding forming properties and reliable corrosion protection, HX260YD is used in many branches of industry:

Automotive industry: Production of deep-drawn interior body parts, complex structural components and intricate covers that require tight tolerances and uniform sheet thicknesses.
Household appliances: housings, front panels and interior cladding for washing machines, refrigerators and ovens with a flawless surface and even material distribution.
Electronics and electrical engineering: housings, shielding plates and component carriers where high dimensional accuracy and surface quality are crucial.
Furniture and furnishing industry: Design-oriented molded metal parts for office and contract furniture that require precise contours and seamless surfaces.
Machine and plant construction: covers, cladding and sheet metal components with tight bending radii and constant material flow.

Conclusion

With its Y-steel technology, the hot-dip galvanized steel HX260YD in accordance with EN 10346 offers an outstanding combination of high deep-drawing capacity, uniform hardening and long-lasting corrosion protection. The optimized r and n values ensure excellent flow properties and minimize rejects in complex forming processes. The six available coating variants enable individual adaptation to different corrosion and temperature classes. HX260YD is therefore the ideal choice for manufacturers who place the highest demands on the precision, surface quality and durability of their cold-formed products.
