Chemical properties

The hot-dip galvanized steel HX300LAD in accordance with the EN 10346 standard is a high-performance micro-alloyed structural steel that has been specially developed for use in highly stressed structural applications. Under the material number 1.0932, HX300LAD combines the advantages of a specific micro-alloy with niobium, titanium and vanadium with the proven corrosion protection of homogeneous hot-dip galvanizing. Thanks to its fine-grained microstructure, which is due to the precipitation of finely dispersed carbides and nitrates, this steel achieves a significantly increased yield strength and tensile strength combined with good toughness and workability.

Properties

HX300LAD impresses with its balanced combination of the following mechanical and technological characteristics:

Minimum yield strength Rp0.2: min. 300 N/mm², achieved by micro-alloying with niobium, titanium and vanadium, which favors a fine-grained microstructure.
Tensile strength Rm: in the range of 380-480 N/mm², which ensures a high load-bearing capacity under static and dynamic loads.
Elongation at break A80: ≥ 23 %, which ensures sufficient ductility and formability even with tight bending radii.
Microalloying effect: The combination of niobium, titanium and vanadium leads to precise grain refinement and stabilizes the microstructure against grain growth – two properties that have a positive influence on both strength and impact strength.
Hot-dip galvanizing in accordance with EN 10346: In a continuous dipping process, the strip sheet is given a uniformly thick zinc coating. This coating reliably protects the base material against atmospheric and chemical corrosion. Various coating alloys (+Z, +ZF, +ZA, +ZM, +AZ and +AS) also allow adhesion, passive protection and temperature resistance to be precisely matched to the respective application conditions.

In addition, HX300LAD is characterized by a homogeneous microstructure, good weldability and excellent dimensional stability, which enables economical further processing in cutting, bending and welding processes.

Applications

Thanks to its high strength, toughness and reliable corrosion protection, HX300LAD is mainly used in the automotive industry. Typical areas of application are

Cross members and crash elements: The increased yield strength and good notched impact strength improve energy absorption in the event of a crash.
Chassis and suspension components: HX300LAD lightweight profiles provide the necessary stability with less material, which helps to reduce the overall vehicle weight.
Seat rails and floor beams: High fatigue strength and uniform deformability optimize long-term reliability and ride comfort.
Structural reinforcements in the engine compartment: Tight installation spaces and complex geometries can be realized with this steel, as can high corrosion resistance to road salt and spray water.

Conclusion

The hot-dip galvanized steel HX300LAD in accordance with EN 10346 combines an excellent combination of high strength, good ductility and long-lasting corrosion protection thanks to the micro-alloying with niobium, titanium and vanadium. With a minimum yield strength of around 300 N/mm², a tensile strength of up to 600 N/mm² and an elongation at break of at least 16 %, it offers a technically and economically mature solution for demanding structural components in the automotive industry. The flexible selection of coating alloys also enables precise adaptation to a wide range of environmental and operating conditions – a decisive advantage for modern vehicle concepts that have to combine lightweight construction, safety and durability.
